Club News June 29th at the Track What a GREAT turnout we had at the racetrack !! 9 VIPERS, 1 Bentley and LOTS of fun. Jimmy Evans came in all the way from Farmington just for the event, Jim B. provided Subway sandwiches and lots of shade, the temperature was in the 80's, and we even met a new family that will be joining the Club. Jim B. and Chris appeared to have the fastest lap times, and the rest of us simply worked on improving our driving skills. After working up an appetite at the track, about 15 of us met at El Pinto for some great food at a great price (the Club bought dinner !) Thanks to Jan for setting up this event and bringing lots of drinks, and thanks to the following for making the event great: Lorena and son Matthew, Chris + Sheila, Jimmy, Jim B + Renee, Steve + Barb Tarro, Karl Hoffman, Sheldon + Donita, and the new family Shawn + Erika. Even Mike Tobin (sans Viper) stopped by to say hi. We hope to do another "Track Day" later in the year. Come on out !!
1st Annual ROADRUNNER Charity Fun Run May 4,was the 1st Annual Roadrunner Charity Fun Run. Our charity was the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation, who has distributed aid with a value of more than $25 million to eligible children of fallen Marines and law enforcement personnel. 100% of all donations received are distributed. There are no admin costs. What a great charity ! Our "Poker Event" received over 50 entries, with Vipers, Ford GT, Bentley, Lamborghini, Corvettes, Porches, Cobra's, and a lot of specialty cars showing up. The 3 best poker hands won hand made trophies (thanks Bennie Martinez), and another 15 lucky entrants won various door prizes. We were able to generate over $3,000 for our charity. A special thanks to Lorena, Chris and Sheila, Bennie, Jimmy and Kim, Michael and Frenchie, Mike T., Jim B. and Jan for all the help with the event (sorry if I left anyone out).
Planning Meeting-- January 2008 ! The January Planning meeting was a complete success, and I thank all who attended and got actively involved in the decision process for helping determine the direction the club will have in 2008. It will be a great year !!Christmas Party Fun !
An excellent turnout helped welcome in the month of December at Lorena's house, as the annual
VIPER Christmas party got under way on Saturday.
The casual atmosphere, some fine wine, and the great company made the evening a success, and everyone got to take home some leftovers as well !
My thanks to Lorena for hosting the event, and for all those that were able to make the evening another great VIPER event. See you all next year ! (photos by Mick Greenbank. Thanks Mick!) Free food at the Golden Arches ! Well, it was free for the 10 VIPER owners and their passengers on Saturday, October 20th ! We had our largest turnout of the year, perfect weather, and great company. After our lunch, paid for by Larry Garcia, he gave us a tour of the kitchen, and then we eased the onlookers and photographers away from the cars so we could take an "enthusiastic" drive east on Old Rt. 66. This was so much fun, perhaps we'll do it again next month ! Thanks to all who attended !!
(photos by Mick Greenbank.) What a busy weekend! Sept.14-16, 2007 Friday evening: Imagine 5 shiny VIPERS at the top of Sandia Peak, and imagine that we were NOT the center of attention! In fact, the Bride and Groom were the reason for the trip, as Michael and Frenchie tied the knot and said their vows. The couple looked great, and the reception was a wonderfully catered event. While Honeymoon plans were TOP SECRET, Michael shared with me that Belen is beautiful this time of year !
Saturday night was the Roehl Formal dinner for charity, with tuxedo's and long gowns the mandatory attire. Attendees were Chris and Sheila, Jim and Cheryl, Jan and a date, and Michael and Frenchie.
Sunday Afternoon was the Roehl Car Show, and after a fun lunch at Fuddruckers, the VIPERS made a grande entrance in front of admiring car buffs and afficianados. We were parked in front of the house for all to see, and we drew lots of attention. Some idiot popped Jan's hood, and it sprung to a 1/2 closed and nearly impossible position to open. After nearly 2 hours, and numerous curse words, Jan was finally able to correct the problem with a very large sledge hammer. Just kidding ! His car is fine now. This was our most well attended event of the year, with a special guest from Utah- Barbara Smith- who came down just for this event ! Isn't she great ? Other VIPERS in attendance: Bill, Chris, Jan, Jim, Barb, Mick, Jimmy, Michael, Jerry Roehl with several Vipers, and Kenric with his Ford GT. What a fun time ! I have learned that the Car Show charities received a donation of $58,000 from the event. The NM Viper club donation was a small part of that.
Track Day, Sept.01, 2007 A small but motivated group turned out on the 1st to test their cars against the track. Jan Hogstrom and Jim Baughman showed off the VIPER mystique in their Red and Yellow Vipers. As usual, the Vipers attracted a lot of attention, and the cars and the participants made it home safely.
Pagosa Springs Cruise What a fun weekend! The trip up to Pagosa Springs on Friday, via Santa Fe, Tres Piedras, and Tierra Amarilla was fast paced and ticket free. The participants were Bill and Lorena, Chris and Sheila, Karl and DeAnn Hoffman, Stephen (50 yr. old b'day boy)and Kathy Etre (and family), and our BBQ experts from Farmington, Jimmy and Kim Evans. Saturday was the trip to Silverton and Ouray, and Sunday was a trip to Wolf Creek Pass. Each Viper owner will receive a $100 check from the Club as our way of saying "thanks for participating." More pictures and details of the trip below.
